Convoi — Terms of Service
Effective date: set this to your first Play Store release date.
Contact: support@convoi.app
These terms govern your use of the Convoi mobile app. By installing the app and creating an account you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use Convoi.
1. What Convoi is
Convoi is a free mobile app that lets you ride in a group with other motorcyclists. Specifically it lets you:
- Create or join a small convoy (a private group of riders).
- See every rider in the convoy on a live map.
- Plan a multi-waypoint route together.
- Receive turn-by-turn navigation.
- Talk to the group over a push-to-talk voice channel.
- Send chat messages and photos within the convoy.
- Fire an SOS alert that notifies every other rider in the convoy.
- Add friends, build persistent rider groups, and invite them to convoys.
Convoi is operated by the project’s maintainer (referred to as “we”, “us”, “Convoi”) and runs on managed cloud services described in the Privacy Policy.
2. Eligibility
Convoi is for adults (18 years of age or older). The voice channel and live location sharing features are not designed for minors and the Play Store listing is rated 18+ accordingly.
By using Convoi you confirm that:
- You are 18 or older.
- You hold a valid motorcycle license appropriate for the bike you are riding (if you are using Convoi while riding).
- You will obey all local traffic laws while using the app. Convoi is a passenger to your ride, not the driver of it.
3. Your account
- You sign in with an email + password or with a Google account.
- You are responsible for keeping your credentials safe. Convoi staff will never ask for your password.
- You may have only one account per person. We may suspend duplicate accounts.
- You may close your account at any time — see Privacy Policy → Delete your account.
4. What Convoi is NOT responsible for
The road is the road. Convoi is software running on a phone you brought with you. You ride at your own risk.
In particular:
- Navigation accuracy. Convoi sources turn-by-turn directions from Mapbox. Mapbox routes are not always current; road closures, one-way changes, bridges out of service, and seasonal closures may not be reflected. Always validate the route with your own eyes before committing to a maneuver. Stop and check the map at a safe pullout rather than reading the screen at speed.
- GPS accuracy. GPS positions can drift, be wrong by hundreds of meters under tunnels, in city canyons, or in dense forests. The “live map” position of any rider may lag reality by a few seconds, or in poor conditions by minutes. Treat the map as a hint, not a fact.
- Voice channel. The PTT voice channel is for casual rider coordination. It is NOT an emergency communications channel and Convoi makes no guarantee about latency, audio quality, or delivery. Do not rely on the voice channel for emergencies.
- SOS button. The SOS feature notifies the other riders in your convoy that you have triggered it. It does NOT contact emergency services. If you have an emergency, call your local emergency number first (112 in Turkey, 911 in the US, 999 in the UK, 000 in Australia, etc), then trigger SOS to let your convoy know.
- Battery + signal. Convoi uses GPS and cellular data continuously while a convoy is active. Long rides can drain a phone battery in 2–4 hours. Carry a power bank. The app cannot work without cellular data — there is no offline mode for live position sharing (offline tile downloads are available for map rendering only).
- Other riders’ behavior. Convoi connects you with the people you choose to add as friends and the convoys you join. We do not vet other riders. You are responsible for who you ride with.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Convoi to harass, threaten, or impersonate other riders.
- Send unsolicited commercial content (ads, promotions) via chat or group invites.
- Send illegal content via chat (this includes — but is not limited to — sexual material involving minors, content that incites violence, copyrighted material you don’t have the rights to, or malware).
- Use Convoi for commercial group-rides without our written permission. Touring companies, tour operators, paid group rides — talk to us first at support@convoi.app.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source from the published app, except to the extent local law allows.
- Use any automated system (bots, scripts) to interact with Convoi outside the published mobile clients.
- Probe the backend services for vulnerabilities without prior written consent. We welcome responsible disclosure — email security@convoi.app — but freelance pen-testing is not authorized.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules. For egregious violations (CSAM, threats of violence, repeated harassment) we will also report the account to law enforcement.
6. Content you submit
You retain ownership of everything you submit through Convoi — your display name, profile photo, chat messages, photos, status beacons, voice transmissions.
By submitting content through Convoi, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to:
- Store the content on our servers so we can show it to the riders you intended.
- Transmit it to those riders in real-time and via push notifications.
- Process it as needed to make Convoi work (e.g. caching, format conversion, thumbnail generation).
This license ends when you delete the content (or when you delete your account — see Privacy Policy).
You confirm that you have the rights to submit any content you share via Convoi. If you upload a photo of someone else, you are responsible for having their permission to share it with your convoy.
7. Service availability
Convoi is provided as-is. We do not guarantee:
- That the app will be available at any specific time.
- That the realtime location updates will arrive within any specific latency.
- That voice channel quality will meet any specific standard.
- That the Mapbox map or Directions data will be free of errors.
- That FCM push notifications will be delivered (Apple/Google control that pipeline; we hand the message off and trust them).
We do our best to keep the app up and the data fresh, but we don’t promise any specific uptime number. If you depend on Convoi for safety-critical coordination, you should also have a backup plan.
8. Updates
We release updates that fix bugs, add features, and improve security. By using Convoi you agree to receive these updates. The Play Store handles the actual delivery — if you have auto-update turned off, you are responsible for installing them.
Some updates may require accepting new terms. When that happens we show an in-app notice on first launch after the update.
9. Termination
You can stop using Convoi at any time. Just uninstall it. To also remove your account from our servers, see Privacy Policy → Delete your account.
We can suspend or terminate your account if:
- You violate these terms or the privacy policy.
- Your account is inactive for more than 24 months.
- We’re legally required to do so.
- We’re shutting Convoi down (see §11).
When we suspend or terminate an account we make a reasonable effort to notify you at the email address on file, unless doing so is legally prohibited (e.g. ongoing law enforcement investigation).
10. Liability
To the maximum extent allowed by your local law:
- Convoi is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied.
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of Convoi — including but not limited to lost rides, missed rendezvous, road incidents, medical costs, or vehicle damage.
- Our total liability for any direct damages, in the unlikely event we are found liable, is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. Convoi is currently free, so this amount is zero.
Some jurisdictions don’t allow exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability. If you live in one of those (notably the EU), the limitations above apply only to the extent permitted by your law.
11. Changes to Convoi or these terms
We may change Convoi, change these terms, or shut Convoi down. When we do:
- Terms changes: see §8.
- Shutting down: we’ll give you at least 60 days notice via in-app notice and an email to your account address. You’ll have time to export your data (see Privacy Policy).
- Feature removal: material features may be removed without prior notice if necessary for security or legal compliance.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the country where Convoi is established. Unless we explicitly tell you otherwise on the support page, that is Turkey. Disputes that cannot be resolved amicably go to the courts of Istanbul.
If you are an EU resident, you also have the right to bring a dispute in the courts of your home country.
